Current research is focusing on novel inhibitors of fatty acid biosynthesis enzymes, such as FabI and FabH, in various pathogens. There is also interest in understanding the role of lipid droplets in the life cycle of viruses and the potential of targeting lipid metabolism for antiviral therapies. Moreover, studies are exploring the synergistic effects of combining fatty acid biosynthesis inhibitors with other antimicrobial agents to overcome resistance.
