While HFMD is usually self-limiting, medical attention should be sought if the affected individual experiences any of the following:
Persistent high fever. Severe headache, stiff neck, or back pain. Signs of dehydration, such as dry mouth, decreased urination, or lethargy. Difficulty breathing or unusual sleepiness.
