Measles is transmitted through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can also spread by direct contact with secretions from the nose or throat of an infected person. The virus can linger in the air or on surfaces for several hours, making it extremely easy to contract in close quarters or crowded environments.
