Introduction to Ebola
The
Ebola virus is a severe, often fatal illness in humans and nonhuman primates. Since its discovery in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, the virus has caused several outbreaks, primarily in Africa. Ebola is part of a family of viruses known as
Filoviridae, which also includes the Marburg virus.
Transmission of Ebola
